International organizations give funds to fight poverty on the short term, but development requires strategies and economic resources on the long term. The Millennium Project is a consultant team subdivided in work groups, each of which issues recommendations to achieve a Goal, in order to modify development institutions' policies.
Governments in the North and international organizations
- Increase significantly funding and adjust it to the needs of each country, taking under consideration health agents' contributions. - Reinforce the health systems, as they are key institutions in order to set up sustainable, fair and technical interventions to reduce poverty and advance in development. - Create plans to foster the training of health workers according to each country's needs.
Governments in the South
- Facilitate interventions in communities, especially in paying attention to child nutrition and in increasing funds to prevent neonatal deaths.
- Healthcare for children should have 100% coverage and, whenever it's possible, it should take place in communities.
- The cost of primary healthcare should be assumed by the healthcare system in each country and the population's co-payments should be cancelled.
Development NGOs
- Give priority to primary healthcare in all health-related projects.
