Goals >> Goal 5 >> Recommendations
International organizations give funds to fight poverty on the short term, but development requires strategies and economic resources on the long term.
The Millennium Project is a consultant team subdivided in work groups, each of which issues recommendations to achieve a Goal, in order to modify development institutions' policies.

Governments in the North and international organizations

- Aumentar considerablemente la financiación y ajustarse a las necesidades de salud de cada pa

- Reinforce health systems, as they are key institutions in order to set up sustainable, fair and technical interventions to reduce poverty and advance in development.

- Create plans to foster the training of health workers according to each country's needs, especially of qualified midwives and associate degree professionals in order to guarantee emergency obstetric care.

Governments in the South

- Support qualified midwives in communities, guarantee health care during labor and, in case of need, access to emergency obstetric care.

- Guarantee universal access to reproductive sexual health, paying attention especially to vulnerable groups like adolescents.

- Review laws, regulations and practices that endanger women's health.

- Guarantee women's access to high quality health care for the possible complications resulting from an abortion.

- The cost for primary healthcare should be assumed by the healthcare system in each country and the population's co-payments should be cancelled.

Development NGOs

- Give priority to primary healthcare and take into account the gender perspective in all health-related projects.
